The last time I felt free was about 3 weeks ago. I had just gotten back from a retreat with a program I'm in, Interfaith for Climate Justice. Prior to the retreat, I had just gotten back from vacation with my family. And on top of that, school was starting the same week. In other words, I was on an emotional high, filled with happiness and excitement. Anyway, upon returning home from the retreat I decided to do one of my favorite things- go on a bike ride.
After I finished my usual route, I still wasn't tired and hadn't had just enough, so I decided to go to the neighborhood park. Usually the park is crowded with kids playing basketball and tons of kids running around, but on that particular day it was empty. I headed straight for the swings. I turned my music and started to swing and sing. And in this moment I felt free. Free of all my worries and stress. I was able to forget about the world, and just live in the moment. I stayed there for almost an hour just swinging and singing. It was just marvelous.
I think freedom is being able to just be. It means not being concerned with every little thing and just being able to live in the moment. It's like taking a moment for yourself to enjoy life.
